  • Our Year 5 and Year 6 Inter-School Football Tournament

Today our sensational football team played in their first tournament of the new year. Thanks to sponsorship from Hurt Transport they were able to wear brand new football kits which the team absolutely loved. Our team certainly did not disappoint, once again demonstrating how sportsmanship, teamwork and perseverance always win the day. Well done Team Northern for coming second.

  • Our Northern Community

    Thu 23 Sep 2021

I thought I would share with you some messages of support from parents and carers that have been received in school recently. Our Northern community is definitely a fantastic place to be a member of.

Thank you for keeping us all going through this really difficult year. Your resilience, passion and dedication have really made a difference.

Thank you for making M's time at Northern a pleasure! She has loved being in the Northern family and will miss all the fun and excitement. Thank you so much to everyone of the staff that have worked with her and guided her to be her best.

My girls have enjoyed every minute this year.

We just wanted to thank you for everything that the school has done for us this year. Both boys absolutely love the school and have made some really nice friends.

Thank you so much for all your hard work this year! It's been such a difficult year for us all but you have all done an amazing job of keeping a 'sense of normality' in all the confusion. We truly appreciate all your hard work and dedication.

  • Northern in partnership with Hurt Plant Hire

Mon 20 Sep 2021 Mrs Ewens

At Northern we care about our village and want to make sure it is as safe as possible for our children.  This is why we have teamed up with Hurt Plant Hire to educate the children about road safety around the wagons.  Hurt came in to school to deliver an assembly to all the children and there is now a 'Ask Hurt' box which children can use to express their views, concerns or questions directly to Hurt.

We also received a lovely surprise when Hurt revealed the new Northern football kit they have kindly purchased for us.  Thank you so much!  Miss Collins will show you all the children wearing it on Monday at our first game so watch this space!

Northern will be continuing to work alongside Hurt and the children will be given the opportunity to see the lorries close up too.  More information will follow nearer the time.

  • Roald Dahl Day

Thu 16 Sep 2021 Mrs Ewens

We had great fun this week celebrating Roald Dahl Day!

We learned all about the life of Roald Dahl and also took part in some great activities.  Take a look at our class pages to see what we have been doing.

  • International Day of Democracy

    Tue 14 Sep 2021

At Northern, our children understand that our country has a political system called a democracy when means 'rule by the people.' Through our work on being a Silver Rights Respecting School we understand that every child has the right to their own thoughts and beliefs. Everyone is free to choose their own religion and to practice their religion as they want to. Every individual has the right to enjoy their own culture, along with other members of their group, even if their group is a minority. However, everyone must exercise these rights peacefully, with respect for the law and the rights of others.

At Northern, all pupils in the school are involved in the school council. This is pupil-led. The Northern community believe that this plays an important role and deals with significant issues. It makes a difference.

Our Northern community used the International Day of Democracy to develop understanding about the rights of every child around the world to live with freedom, peace and human rights.

Together we have a stronger voice to make a difference.

  • Our class values and zones of regulation

    Tue 14 Sep 2021

At Northern we are so proud of how important our children feel in making a difference to their learning. Every school year starts with the children in each class discussing how they learn best and which values they would like to establish to ensure every child is able to learn and be happy. The values that the children choose then become the central part of each classes positive behaviour strategies.

This year, we are also working hard to help each child to understand the different feelings they might experience during the school day. Last week, each class worked hard to identify strategies and tools that the children could implement if they were feeling anything other than happy. Every class, has created a 'Regulation Station' to ensure that every child feels able to regulate their feelings to ensure they return to green as soon as possible.

If you are interested to find out more then visit your child's class website page and click on the icons and all will be explained in more detail.

  • Learning music at Northern

    Tue 14 Sep 2021

We have reason to celebrate this year because we now have two year groups who are learning to play musical instruments. Children will now receive tuition over two years which will ensure their musical abilities deepen. Our Year 4 children enjoyed their first ukulele lesson last week and are excitedly awaiting their second lesson. Our Year 5 children are continuing to learn to play their saxophones and clarinets which they started to play in Year 4. It is amazing to think of the musical talents that we are now nurturing for our children.

  • Welcome back - September 2021

    Thu 02 Sep 2021

The children eagerly returned to school this week with amazing stories of their holiday fun. It was so lovely to see all of their smiley faces and hear their fun and laughter in school again.

There are lots of learning experiences planned for this half term in each year group so please head over to your child's class website page to find out more.

You should be receiving an invite to a Zoom Welcome Meeting with your child's class teacher. Please try your hardest to log on for this but if this is not possible then your child's teacher will upload a recording of the meeting on to the class website page.

    Welcome back and keep smiling

    Mrs Marr
