  • Our first School Council meeting for this term!

Thu 27 Jan 2022 Mrs Ewens

I now have the pleasure of leading School Council at Northern and today we held our first lunch meeting!  We all met together to discuss the role of a School Councillor and talked about the differences we would like to make.

Some of the issues raised were -

The cups at lunchtime are not large enough

There are only goal posts at one end of the football pitch (one side is just painted on the wall)

There are no slides, swings or roundabouts in the playground (the meeting is completely child led!)

The other issue which the children raised was the main road and safety.  We have previously been visited by Fox Brothers who talked to the children about road safety, particularly safety around trucks.

Children raised some concerns about the trucks travelling past school during busy times such as coming to school and home time, the dirt which comes from the trucks and also the noise.

I have spoken to a Zowie, a representative from Fox Brothers and she has agreed to attend our next School Council meeting to discuss the issues raised with the children.

  • Year 6 Dodgeball Competition!

    Wed 26 Jan 2022

This afternoon, six members of Year 6 took part in a Dodgeball competition at The Valley Leadership Academy. The boys played immensely well, showed excellent honesty and fairness and made Northern proud. We came 3rd out of 12 teams so a fantastic achievement - well done!

  • Harold the Giraffe revisits Northern

    Tue 25 Jan 2022

Harold the Giraffe has been in school today and will be visiting us again tomorrow! Harold is part of the Life Education Visit and goes into all the classes to talk about lots of different things from being a good friend to staying safe! At the end of each session, the children get to meet Harold and even receive a sticker from him. Check out your child's class webpage for more information.

  • Breaking News: Our Reception class receive a visit from the local police.

    Tue 25 Jan 2022

Our Reception children were on their very best behaviour when they received a visit from our local police officers. The children prepared some fantastic questions to ask the police officers. Well done to you all. The photos show what an amazing time every child had thanks to our visitors.

  • Our amazing library enjoys a revamp.

    Tue 25 Jan 2022

Since we returned to school in January, our three amazing librarians Ruby, Lily and Isabelle have been determined to organise our school library so it is ready for use by all the children. I think you will agree that they have succeeded in making our school library a place that every child at Northern will want to visit. Every class now has a slot where the children can choose to visit the library and choose a book to take home on a weekly basis. Thank you librarians.

  • Year 3 learn all about Sikhism through a virtual visit to a Gurdwara.

    Tue 18 Jan 2022

Yesterday, our Year 3 children experienced the traditions of Sikhism first-hand as they were transported inside a Gurdwara. Unfortunately, this had to remain a virtual visit via Zoom however Mr Davies and the children were not going to allow that to take anything away from this amazing learning opportunity.

  • Reception learn to ride thanks to Bikeability.

    Tue 18 Jan 2022

This week, our Reception children have been learning the skills that they need to confidently ride a bike. The self-confidence shown in attempting many different new skills has been a joy to watch. I wouldn't be surprised to see one or two of our Reception children representing Great Britain at a future Olympic Games. Well done everyone and a huge thank you to Bikeability.
