Northern's Never Ending Learning

At Northern, we believe that children should be immersed in a curriculum which has links to their own life and the area in which they live.  As such, we have designed our curriculum for children to learn through our fabulous local environment and compare and contrast this with other areas from around the world.  Children will take a look back through time in an engaging and stimulating learning environment which will enable them to create their own cultural timeline to ensure that this learning is long lasting.

We are passionate about our amazing cross curricular learning and children in our school thrive in this exciting and engaging environment. Our subject leaders have worked extremely hard to create a curriculum which ensures all of our children follow a sequence of learning which links knowledge, skills and vocabulary building on what the child already knows and therefore ensuring every child builds lifelong knowledge.

Take a look at our curriculum overviews to see what your child will be learning this year.

If you don't find the information you are looking for then please come in to meet with either your child's class teacher or the subject leader for the subject you wish to find out more information about. Just speak to Mrs Nicholas in the school office and she will make an appointment for you.

Our Curriculum

At Northern Primary School our curriculum is designed to inspire enthusiasm for learning, to ensure achievement and to support pupil well-being and happiness.

We provide first hand learning experiences that allow children to develop interpersonal skills and build resilience through strong values for learning. Our cross-curricular approach enables our children to make meaningful links within their learning.

We celebrate our own special school identity through the unique experiences that our curriculum provides. We have developed a rich and varied menu of enhancement opportunities to engage learning and recognise individuality.  Our curriculum enables us to build strong relationships, celebrate diversity, encourage respect and build a sense of community. It provides and acknowledges success for all children, in all aspects of their development and it recognises, encourages and celebrates all types of talent.

As a Rights Respecting school, lessons and assemblies promote positive attitudes which reflect the values and skills needed for future learning and success.  We are proud of the awards we have achieved and these are a reflection of our quality and varied curriculum.

Teamwork and responsibility are an essential part of our curriculum and we enable children to take on key roles, becoming involved in the community, through celebration of local traditions, by learning new skills and enabling them to take an active part in events throughout the year.

Children leave Northern Primary School with a sense of belonging and are proud that they have developed the confidence and skills needed to be learners for life.  Our rich and varied curriculum ensures that all children have a deep and balanced understanding of the world around them.
