  • Mayoral Visit

    Wed 26 Feb 2020
Today at Northern, we had two very special visitors. We were visited by the Mayor and Mayoress of Rossendale. The Mayor, who is called Barbara Ashworth, is a Bacup Councillor and the Mayoress, who is called Christine Lamb, is a former councillor. They spoke to all the children in school about the role of the Mayor and Mayoress and how they visit lots of places and raise lots of money for charity. The children were then given the opportunity to ask them questions and as usual the childen did us proud with the sheer amount of questions they asked. They both then attended Newspaper Club run by Catherine Smyth. Well done Northern!
  • PDSA Visit

    Fri 14 Feb 2020
Today we have had a very special day here at Northern. We have had worskhops held all day by Kylie who is a Veterinary Nurse from PDSA. The PDSA is a charity which was set up in 1917 by one woman - Maria Dickin - who wanted to provide animal care that was accessible to everyone. Her vision was to provide free animal treatments and care to all animals and 103 years later, this vision is still going strong. The vets and veterinary nurses work tirelessly to provide a high level of care for all animals and it has been a real learning curve for our children today finding out all about the animals and the work this amazing charity does. Please see individual class pages for more information.
  • Handball Final

    Wed 12 Feb 2020
Today our Year 4 team represented Northern in the Rossendale Handball Final held at The Valley Academy. The team played exceptionally well and won all but one of their games. The other game was a draw. The team were joint first place on points however it was decided by goals scored overall in the competition and so we were pipped at the post to first place. A worthy second place Northern. Well done!

  • Inside Out Day!

    Thu 06 Feb 2020
Today our KS 2 children came to school wearing their jumpers inside out to raise awareness for Children's Mental Health Week! The children wore them with so much pride and respect that the initiative even reached Year 2! It was a pleasure to have so many children coming up to staff and showing them what they were wearing that was inside out. Special mention must go to those extra special pupils who wore their skirts and trousers inside out too! Well done Northern!
  • Handball Competition.

    Wed 05 Feb 2020
Today some of our children attended The Valley Leadership Academy to represent Northern in a Handball competition. They worked exceptionally hard and showed amazing team work and respect for other teams. They were rewarded with winning the group stage and have now progressed to the finals which are to be held next Wednesday back at The Valley. Well done team and good luck for next week.
  • Supporting Children's Mental Health

    Wed 05 Feb 2020

This week is National Children's Mental Health week so the children in Key Stage 2 have been encouraged to think about how children around them may be feeling. On Thursday some of the children will be choosing to wear one item of their school uniform inside out as a way of making us all stop and think about how someone may look OK on the outside 😊 but inside they may be feeling sad or worried 😒.

Inside Out Day calls for children and adults alike to wear an item of clothing ’Inside Out’

The aim of Inside Out Day is to remind everyone to always be kind and think of others as no one knows how another person may be feeling.

“Mental health is one of the biggest challenges we face as a society. Social media can often disguise reality making everyone else look like they’re happy and leading wonderful lives, even when they’re not. We just want to let children know it’s Ok not to be Ok and that no-one is perfect (even though they may look it)."

Below is a leaflet that provides parents with ten conversation starters that are designed to help parents confidently talk about mental health with their child so that children feel comfortable talking about their own worries.
