  • Year 1 and Year 2 Athletics.

    This afternoon several of our children from Year 1 and Year 2 to take part in an Athletics skills festival and yet again, our children were amazing ambassadors for Northern. They learnt how to use the equipment, how to use their body posture and, most importantly, have fun!

  • Northern's Table Football Competition!

    Northern is well and truly engrossed in the spirits of the World Cup!

    For the duration of the competition, we have set up some world cup themed activities and in school competitions for the children to take part in, earn prizes and enjoy!  Look at the images below to see the various activities available to the children as well as our informative world cup display. This display allows children to not only have the opportunity to explore the large range of information regarding the World Cup and its history, but it also lets the children of Northern become global citizens through the exploration of different nations around the world.

    One competition that has taken key stage 2 by storm is the World Cup themed table football competition.

    The competition has commenced with 64 children working together in pairs of 2, representing the 32 different nations competing in the World Cup. Teams were drawn against each other at random and have this week started to play their fixtures during break times in the hall. Prizes are available for all competing teams. The teams who place 1st, 2nd and 3rd will have the chance to be rewarded in assembly on the last day of term

  • World Cup fever has struck Northern!

    Starting this week, many children from across the school will be taking part in a World Cup themed table football competition. The children taking part have each been allocated a partner and a country to represent together throughout the competition. 

    Mr Hindle is very excited about the World Cup and the children are also loving the additional football themed challenges Mr Hindle has set them.

  • Year 3 and 4 Athletics Festival.

    Today our Year 3 and 4 children attended The Valley to take part in an Athletics Festival. The children worked very well as a team and took part in Javelin, Running, Speed Bounce and High Jumps to name a few. Well done to all of you for showing super team spirit!

  • It’s time to get fit!

    Today we began our Mile a Day challenge. Every class in school will be running a mile a day, every day.  Today was tough for some us, especially the teachers!

    This marks the start of anti-bullying week which is something that we are passionate about at Northern. At Northern we won't tolerate any form of bullying and we are proud to be a Rights Respecting Rchool and practice these beliefs daily.

  • Remembrance Walk.

    Today our Year 4 and Year 6 children walked from Northern Primary School up to the War Memorial at the top of Weir. The children were very respectful, and it was lovely to see so many members of our community join us for this service. The Year 6 children read so well and special mention to the 2nd Rossendale Scout Band member and ex-pupil Enfys who played The Last Post.

  • Deputy Commissioner and Councillor Assembly.

    Today our Road Safety Campaign took another step towards making our roads and children safer! The Deputy Police Commissioner of Lancashire Police attended Northern along with Barbara Ashworth, Jackie Oakes, Andy MacNae and PC Rob to speak to the children about their concerns outside school and along Burnley Road. All the visitors were extremely impressed with the children's responses and in particular the pupil council members. We have now managed to secure a meeting with the pupil council and the Deputy Commissioner to create a plan to keep our roads safe! Watch this space!
