Northern is an amazing place for our children to learn. In our latest news section we will share with you the latest events taking place across the school. More detailed information can be found on your child's class website page.
At the weekend we were excitedly looking forward to our planned Welly Wednesday. As we sat out in the sunshine I hoped that it would not be too hot for the children to be outdoors all morning. HOWEVER, as we know, the weather can quickly change around here! KS1 still had an amazing morning in our fabulous school grounds although we did take some of the activities indoors. Look at all our amazing learning!
Today, two of our Year 5 boys attended a Maths workshop at Peel Park in Accrington. They went with Mrs Rothwell and took part in lots of maths problem solving and reasoning activities where you needed to do some 'out of the box' thinking. They did Northern proud and a great time was had by both of them! Well done!
Wow…we are half way through the infant art classes at Brush and Pencil tonight. The children had lots of fun looking at the artists' Kandinsky and M.C.Escher. They created tessellations using stamp and paint along the theme of nature. They then used shapes to stamp a natural picture onto paper and canvas. They were fantastic!

I am sharing this supportive resource from the British Red Cross with you all in the hope some of you may find it helpful.
Today our Year 6 children have taken part in a Victorian Crime and Punishment Workshop! They were trained how to be prison wardens, learnt about what a Victorian prison was like and how to carry out drills! Well done Year 6!
Thanks to all of the Morrison 'Good to Grow' vouchers that you donated to Northern, the children received a bumper bundle of goodies in school today. The children wasted no time in making use of the hedgehog house, the seeds, the weather station and the rainfall gauge.
Thank you so much Morrisons and our amazing Northern community.
Here at Northern we have always strived to support everyone in the community and far and wide. Thanks to the generosity and care of the Northern community, the 'Rossendale for Ukraine' appeal has been inundated with donations. You are all amazing - thank you so much.
A huge thank you also needs to be shared with Thomas and his mum for asking the school to become involved in supporting the appeal through the Rossendale 42nd Scouts where Thomas is a Beaver.
Tonight children from Northern represented our school at the Rossendale Dance Festival. They have been working hard for weeks leading up to this event and it certainly paid off tonight. The children were absolutely amazing and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They were a credit to Northern, Miss Nuttall and you as parents. Well done girls - it was great to see you shine on stage!
There is no better feeling than when every member of the school community from children to staff are buzzing with excitement. That is exactly what has happened across the school as each child celebrated their favourite book character by dressing up as them. From Fantastic Mr Fox to Harry Potter to Mr Strong there was so much fun! Thank you parents for helping to return the learning sparkle back to every nook of Northern. This is most definitely one of my favourite parts of being Headteacher. As the photos below show, all of the children enjoyed sharing their favourite book character during our whole school parade.
For more photos of the fun enjoyed in each class then make sure you head to your child's class website page.
This morning, look what has happened to Mrs Marr and Mrs Ewens...
More World Book Day fun to follow soon.
