  • Fire Safety and Road Sense workshops

Tue 28 Nov 2023 Mrs Rawcliffe

On the 28th November, Year 2 and Year 6 were visited by the fire service and took place in two very different workshops!

Year 2 children enjoyed an interactive session, in which the fire service discussed fire safety, checking fire alarms at home, what to do in the event of a fire and what to say on the phone. The children had lots of fun too, trying on the protective clothing.

Year 6 children enjoyed a very informative 'Road Sense' session. The children were given guidance to help with the transition from primary to high school including:

    • The importance of wearing seatbelts and using appropriate car seats
    • Safe cycling including wearing cycle helmets
    • Pedestrian safety
    • Be safe be seen
    • Not causing a distraction when travelling in a car

All the children took an active part in the session and listened well to the very important advice they were given.

A big thank you to Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service for taking the time to visit our school.

  • Lest we forget

    Fri 10 Nov 2023

Today children from Year 4 and 6 walked to Deerplay along with parents, local councillors and Bacup History trust. Children completed readings and a minutes silence was observed followed by The Last Post played on a bugle. It was a truly moving morning.

  • Spooky fun at the disco

Wed 01 Nov 2023 Mrs Ewens

The PTA have done it again!  They organised 2 fantastic discos which all of the children thoroughly enjoyed.  We had dance competitions and pumpkin competitions, face painting and snacks.  It is so lovely to see all of the children enjoying themselves so much.

Thank you PTA from all of us at Northern.

  • Gardening Club

Tue 31 Oct 2023 Mrs Ewens

On Monday, the poly tunnel, which was bought using funds raised by the PTA, was officially opened!  Our gardening club began and it is already booked up for the entire year!.

Pat (a grandparent to two children at Northern) has worked incedibly hard to secure donations from many local and national companies and none of this could have happened without her support and dedication.

The children had so much fun learning about the different nutrients to mix into the soil and were able to plant their own broad beans.  Keep checking our latest news to see how we are getting on.

  • Food, glorious food!

    Fri 20 Oct 2023

Our wonderful children and families have done our community proud again! We were delighted to display all of the harvest donations ready for being taken to Rossendale RAFT foundation to help families in need.

We are so lucky to be a part of such a fantastic community.

Thank you to everyone who donated.

  • This is the moment!

Fri 06 Oct 2023 Mrs Ewens

At Northern we are passionate about our environment and the effects of climate change.  Through our Eco Warriors, we strive to educate people about the dangers our planet is facing and what we can do to stop this.  As part of our singing assembly we are learning this song This is the Moment (Life on Earth) - YouTube which is inspired by David Attenborough.

  • How do you travel to school?

Wed 20 Sep 2023 Mrs Ewens

As a school we are taking part in the WOW-Walk to School Challenge. WOW is a pupil-led initiative where children self-report how they get to school every day using the interactive WOW Travel Tracker. If they travel sustainably (walk, cycle or scoot) once a week for a month, they get rewarded with a badge. It's that easy!

  • Northern Explorers

Tue 19 Sep 2023 Mrs Ewens

Everyone at Northern is an explorer at school. We explore and celebrate our local environment, the diversity of the people within our community and others and are aware of the rights we have as children. Through lessons, assemblies, clubs and discussions we are able to express our own opinions and celebrate those of others.

Being a Northern Explorer means continuing these experiences and learning journeys outside of the school environment.

Take a look at our homework which is aimed at all children across school and as the booklet says, there is no right or wrong way to complete it.

We would love you to share your home learning with us throughout the year and then we can share pictures on here, in assembly and in class.

This homework will be supplemented by specific maths and English related homework.

Please contact staff in your child's class if you have any further questions.
