Monday 25th January

Good morning Reception Class.  I hope that you have all had a great weekend.  For the last 2 weeks we have been learning about the Arctic and Antarctica.  These are the coldest places on earth and we learned lots about the animals that live there and also about Inuit people who live in the Arctic.  This week we will be learning all about Kenya which is in Africa.  The book we will be focussing on is called Handa's Surprise.

For phonics the Green and Red group will need to access Oxford Owl and complete the following books and work:

Green Group - Nip and Chip – Complete Story Green and Red Words and read all of the story.

Red Group - Practice sounds and ask children to write these 5 words – shop, chip, bush, rich, night.

Handwriting  - g, n, h, s, r, l

Blue Group - Practice writing these letters - g, n, h, s, r, l

Write words – ship, cut, jet, not, fox, pack

Practice all sounds verbally.

Maths - This week we are going to be looking at repeating patterns.  Today I would like you to have a go at completing this activity online.  Say the pattern as you go along (eg triangle, square, triangle, square, triangle,?) https://www.topmarks.co.uk/ordering-and-sequencing/shape-patterns

Write a sentence under each picture to describe them.

Today is a special day which is celebrated by many.  The 25th January is known as Burns Night and is a time to remember a Scottish man called Robert Burns.  Take a look at this video to learn a little more about him The Story of Robert Burns - Bing video  What day is special to you?  How do you and your family celebrate this day?
