  • Cross Country competition

    Thu 24 May 2018
Today 18 children represented Northern Primary School at Marl Pits in the Inter-schools cross-country competition. The weather was very warm with little breeze but the children showed the resilience that we encourage and develop here at Northern and they performed magnificently! Massive shout outs must go to Ethan and Grace who finished in the top 25 runners in their category which resulted in them being invited to represent Rossendale at Witton Park in June. Good Luck!

Today our Key Stage 2 children had the opportunity to work alongside their parents in a Back to Nature workshop held by the Family Learning Centre. Thank you to all the parents that attended!

Today our Year 5 class went on their school trip to Tropical World. This was linked to the topics they had been covering in class and the children learnt all about the rainforest and what lives in them and how things adapt to the habitat in order to survive. They also learnt about our native woodlands and compared them to the rainforest. They had an excellent day and they represented Northern fantastically.

Today our Year 3 children enjoyed a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry. They linked all the learning they had done in class and took part in workshops to show off their understanding. • Royal Wedding Celebrations

    Fri 18 May 2018

Today the children were invited to our very own Northern 'Royal Wedding!' The children made wedding hats and gathered in the hall for our very own wedding service performed by Mr Davies. The bridal party then left the hall to tune of the rest of the school singing 'Can't Stop the Feeling'. The children also found out the winners of the 'Design a Wedding Dress' competition and the results were as follows:

    4th place - Rosie

    3rd place - Liiliegh

    2nd place - Amelia

    1st place -  Lois

We then all attended the wedding banquet in the yard wearing our very own gold crowns! The children have had an amazing day and special thanks to all the staff involved in the planning and running of today's celebrations!

  • Storytelling Chair and Stools

    Fri 18 May 2018

One of our parents has won a competition run by local company, Let's Play Everywhere. Finlay and Jack's mum entered a prize draw and amazingly her name was drawn out from hundreds of others.

Thanks to Jack and Finlay's mum the children now have a fantastic new addition to the Quiet Area.

    Thank you so much.

  • May Fair

    Sat 12 May 2018
Today was a fantastic opportunity for children and their families to spend quality time at our renowned May Fair. The school hall, classrooms, yard and field were transformed into an array of stalls selling homemade products, a face painter, hot and cold drinks, BBQ, games such as Quoits and Guess the Lego along with the Northern-famous Chocolate Tombola. We had Beat the Goalie, Airplane Target, Plant Pot Ping Pong and the Lolly Lucky Dip. We even had our own Photo Booth where families could dress up and take some weird and wacky photos. We were entertained by Fusion and 2nd Rossendale Scout Band and it was hosted by our governor who made the most of our sound system. There was a raffle and lots of winners won an array of fantastic prizes. More importantly, we raised over £1300 so a massive thank you should go to the PTA who organised this amazing event as well as staff and volunteers who gave up their time to help on the day. Finally, can we say a massive thank you to everyone who attended and helped raise so much money!
  • All Stars Cricket

    Wed 09 May 2018
This half term, Year 2 have been very lucky to have cricket sessions delivered by All Stars Cricket. Peter has been teaching them the objectives and background of cricket, the skills they would need and then they have also had the opportunity to practise these skills in a cricket match against their team mates. Peter was impressed with how quickly they picked up the skills. The children have already taken home information about the All Stars Cricket as this is a private club which children can join if they have enjoyed learning and playing cricket. If you would like any more information, please contact school or it can be located online too. Well done Year 2.

This week has seen the KS 2 boys from Northern take on football teams from 2 other local schools. the first was against St. Saviour's at home and the second was away against Britannia. We are delighted to announce that they won both matches with significantly heavy scores. They won St. Saviour's 6-0 and Britannia 7-0. A massive congratulations to all the boys who played in the matches and who battled the elements bravely! A huge thanks must go to the parents - Mr Welch in particular - who supported the children and also provided transport. I know the boys would also want to thank Miss Collins for organising the matches as well as running the football club. Well done Northern!
