We've got two tasks to advance our literacy this morning Year 4, and both involve a crucial part of story writing - the character. One of my favourite sayings in storywriting tips is that you must avoid, at all costs, the reader saying 8 fatal words;
"I don't care what happens to these characters."
If they say that, your story is pointless! How does the Mousehole Cat make you care about its characters? We're going to complete a character web and have a look at how making a character more interesting adds to your story and avoids those fatal words.
So, I'll complete a character web for Mowser. I want you do one on Old Tom AND I want you to have a go at making your own character who could act as a hero in your own version of the Mousehole Cat. For your own character, you can be as creative as you like, as long as you keep the reader hooked - avoid those deadly words and make them interesting!
