Yesterday, our Year 6 had a very important lesson on Fire Safety. Three firefighters from Bacup Fire Station came into our class to talk about how to prevent fires, what to do in an emergency and the firefighters discussed having a plan of action on how to escape safely in a fire. The children also learnt about hoax calls: what they are and how dangerous they can be. They learnt about a young boy who died as a result of a hoax call and the children were shocked to learn how frequent these calls are. They also learnt about how easily and quickly fires can start and spread. The children were also given a leaflet about fire alarms and how they can be fitted into our homes.
The children learnt a lot through this visit and we thanked the firefighters for coming in to talk to us.
